Cank mentioned my list of Free VSTs, which is in no way comprehensive but exists. Let me dig that up.

It should work that way, after all. As you keep doing something, you get better at it. There's no reason to hate your old stuff, either. In fact, keep as much of it as you can, because having them outline your progress over the years is really interesting. I love it when people have several years worth of their art available to browse.
As far as music goes, @cank is especially communicative, and, most likely, he'll start summoning other musicians to help you, as well. Start yourself a little network, trading off ideas and suggestions (if you're that sort of person).
If you're trying to get more involved with Newgrounds, why not assist somebody in the Help Wanted section of the Community? Some need music, and would provide you opportunities to create something with a specific direction. Setting limitations like that not only help promote creativity, but if the movie, game, or collaboration becomes popular, and you post the song on the Audio Portal, it doubles the exposure.
Simply listening to the music by other people and leaving comments will also help. It's common for people to return the favor, which, again, means you'll get more suggestions, fans, possibly friendships, collaborations, blah blah blah, and so forth.
That's all I got. Any of that sound good? No? Well, I tried... kinda. Glad you're feeling better.
